Today, Skylark Wireless is pleased to break ground on a two-year, $750,000 research and development grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) seed fund to develop Skylark’s innovative new Television-Band White Space (TVWS) massive-MIMO wireless system for delivering high-speed broadband wireless service to rural customers.

The NSF SBIR program seeks to transform early-stage scientific discovery into societal and economic benefit by catalyzing private sector commercialization of technological innovations. After successfully completing Phase I late last year, Skylark demonstrated technological feasibility of its many-antenna beamforming technology and produced production prototypes of its flexible software-defined Iris radio system to support ongoing development.

Under the direction of Principal Investigator (PI) Ryan E. Guerra, Skylark Wireless will be piloting full-scale demonstrations of its unique many-antenna beamforming system in Phase II of its grant, paving the way for deploying this game-changing high-speed broadband technology economically to currently under-served communities worldwide.
