Houston, April 16, 2016 — Skylark Wireless places in the top 9 at the 2016 Rice Business Plan Competition. With $1.7 million awarded, nearly 400 international applicants, 275 judges from the investment sector, and only 42 teams selected to face off in person, the Rice Business Plan Competition is the largest competition of its kind in the world.
Skylark’s proposal to apply its proprietary software-defined radio platform, unlicensed TV White Space radio spectrum, and patent-pending Massive-MIMO technology to solve the problem of bringing broadband internet access to the under-served rural broadband market struck a chord with the judges and the Skylark team pushed through to the semi-finals in the third day of the competition. Three days of pitching, meeting with successful entrepreneurs and business leaders from around the world, and discussing vision and strategy with the other teams is certainly exhausting, but it’s extremely rewarding. The sense of optimism and drive to change the world through innovative technologies and sustainable business was clearly shared between all the teams presenting. The Skylark team consisting of Founder & CEO Ryan E. Guerra (left) and CTO Clayton Shepard (right) is thrilled to have made it so far and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of both the teams as well as the experience of the judges present. Best of luck to the winner, TriFusion Devices, and to all the other finalists as they build on their successes.
